Please call surgery before 10:00 if possible

If you are not fit to come to the surgery then the doctor may be willing to make a home visit. The reception staff will ask you for some details to help the doctors prioritise the calls. Please indicate if you or the person you are phoning about needs to see the doctor urgently. If after asking for a visit, your condition deteriorates, please phone again and inform the receptionist.

NHS 24 will triage all calls and give advice or ask you to attend the local centre. The centres are run by Lothian Health and you will be seen by a nurse or a doctor as appropriate, and given the medical attention needed.

If you call the emergency line in the surgery, 552 4919, you will be directed to the NHS 24 number. The responsibility for out of hours cover lies with Lothian Health. Doctors in the practice provide some sessions for this service.
 
 
Repeat prescriptions can be obtained by:

   1. Handing in to reception, your list of medications as printed with your last prescription.
   2. Posting the request through our letterbox when the surgery is closed.

All requests will be dealt with within 2 working days and can be collected from reception.

   3. Sending a stamped addressed envelope with the repeat prescription list included and    the items needed, clearly ticked.
   Postal requests ----- Please allow a full week for the prescription to get back to you .

Please remember to make allowances for public holidays and Christmas and New Year.

We have an arrangement with some local pharmacies. They collect scripts daily from the practice.
You can then collect the medication from the pharmacy. If you wish to use this service please tell reception and they will make the arrangements and explain fully, how the system works.
Please do not phone for prescriptions.
We do not routinely accept requests by telephone. This is because we wish to reduce the chance of mistakes being made.
 
 
Hospital letters and reports often take two weeks to be sent to the practice. If you wish to discuss a recent hospital visit, letter/report please check with reception to ensure we have received the report and then make an appointment with a doctor.
 
 
Laboratory and blood results are usually available one week after they were done. Some tests take a lot longer to process. The doctor or nurse will tell you if this is the case and indicate when the result might be back with us.
Results are available after 1.30 - if phoning telephone 552 7970 and choose option 2.
 
 
The Practice has an attached midwife who runs a clinic on a Tuesday afternoon. The doctors also provide antenatal and post natal care during routine appointments. We suggest you book alternate appointments with the midwife and a GP of your choice. This way you have the chance to get to know all members of the team involved in your care. Once you know you are pregnant, call the maternity services on 0131 536 2009 Mon - Fri 9 - 5 p.m. to arrange a booking appointment. Alternatively make an appointment with your GP. Midwife review appointments can be made by phoning 0131 536 6450.
 
 
We provide a full range of child health surveillance and immunisations. There are booked appointments on a Monday afternoon with doctors and Health visitors for scheduled developmental assessments and immunisations. The health visitors hold an open access clinic on a Wednesday morning for weight checks, advice and monitoring of problems.
 
 
Our practice nurses are trained to provide a comprehensive travel service offering advice/administration of most immunisations and scripts for malaria prevention. Remember to discuss your travel immunisations with the practice nurse well ahead of your departure as some immunisations require many weeks to complete the course. Some immunisations are available free of charge on the NHS

Note: certain travel prescriptions are not available on the NHS and you will also need to pay the chemist.

All doctors within the surgery apart from Dr A Johnstone perform minor surgical procedures such as removal of lumps and bumps. These are discussed and agreed during a normal routine appointment then the patient is asked to book a specific minor surgery slot.
 
 
We have access to an interpretation/translation service. This can be helpful at a consultation or with written material. Please let the Practice know in advance if an interpreter is needed, so we have time to make the necessary arrangements. None of the doctors are fluent in foreign languages.
 
 
 
Private and insurance medical examinations are done by special appointment only. Please inform the receptionist at the time of making the appointment so that the time for the examination is appropriate. Certain examinations and Certificates are not covered by the NHS and therefore attract a fee. A list of fees is displayed at the reception desk.
